National Endurance Center

Club Coaches attended a days training from the new National Endurance Center in Leeds – there was some very good content on runing drills/mobilisations and S&C material to use in club sessions at a workshop. A copy of the S&C presentation is below.

Not only was Taggart’s Trot a lot of festive fun, it raised a record total of £2,120 for our charity partners St Teresa’s Hospice in Darlington. Take a bow, Grant, for another fantastic effort.

That brings the total raised for the Hospice to more than £12,000 in the nine years since these events have been staged in Barton. This year, we set another record with 75 teams drawn from far and wide as news of the event spreads every year.

The club also earned some good publicity in the local press – and we do it all again in just over 11 months’ time! Well done to Grant and everyone who made the day such a big success.

We’re catching our breath after another outstanding awards night in which we celebrated a wonderful year of achievement for the club.

Our revamped Club Championship has produced lots of new names on the awards list – and that was exactly our objective. We wanted to freshen things up and give more people a chance to get on the podium.

And that is precisely what we have done. Many thanks to Neil S for all his hard work in developing the new Club Championship format and keeping all the performances updated.

There will be some fine tuning to the categories next year to make sure the championships are representative of all race distances and disciplines.

It’s time to get your entries in for this year’s McTaggart’s Trot, our wonderful Christmas event that attracts runners from a wide area and raises thousands of pounds for our nominated club charity, St Teresa’s Hospice.

McTaggart’s Trot is on Sunday December 23 and is for teams of three. You have three distances to chooses from: 3.5 miles, 7 miles and 11 miles. This is how it works:

Teams set off at the slowest runner’s pace. At 3.5 miles, the slowest runner retires and the remaining pair run at the intermediate runner’s pace to 7 miles. The second runner then retires and the third runner is free to fly for the remaining four miles.

Teams set off at one-minute intervals starting from Barton Village Hall at 9am. The teams are chip-timed and there are prizes afterwards.

Entries have already passed 90, so don’t delay if you want to take part. Please note, a handicap system is in place. Grant McT will place you in a team based on your estimated finishing time for your chosen distance.

Race fee is a bargain £8 per person. To enter McTaggart’s Trot, please click the link below:

It’s celebrations all round for Darlington Tri after we became one of the first clubs in the North-East to win British Triathlon’s Trimark bronze accreditation.

It’s official recognition for both our senior and junior clubs that Darlington Tri meets the highest standards of governance when it comes to coaching, administration, safeguarding and child protection.

Major thanks go to Iain for all the hard work he has put into this application. It was certainly a proud moment when accreditation was confirmed at the Teesdale Triathlon.

Around 50 members and guests attended the club’s 10th birthday gala dinner at Hotel Bannatyne. From small beginnings in 2008, Darlington Tri has become one of the major clubs in the North-East, with members regularly winning Great Britain honours. We have also become an important gateway for newcomers to the sport and we have a flourishing junior section.
Goodwill messages were read out from as far away as Australia and New Zealand. A highlight of the evening was a giant celebration cake baked by Head Coach Richard Hughes.
