POOL STILL CLOSED

We believe maintenance should be completed for the start of the new school year. Fingers crossed we will be back in business on Sunday September 13. Big day all round as this is when we also have our market stall at the stage start of the Tour of Britain on High Row (more on this in next week’s newsletter).

HELL OF THE NORTH SUNDAY SEPTEMBER 6

We have around seven or eight riders ready to tackle this 100-mile challenge (route attached). Meet at the Dolphin Centre at 8.15am for a 8.30 start – and let’s hope the weather is good. In case you are thinking of joining in, the pace should not be daunting.

WELL DONE AT STOCKTON

Some tremendous performances in one of the last major events of the season. Michelle Scott was first lady in the sprint event, recording a great time of 1:11:58, which was five-and-a-half minutes in front of her closest rival. Sam Edwardson was fourth lady in 1:26:37, Michelle Cockburn fifth in 1:30:21 and Jo Hodgson seventh in 1:34:39.

In the men’s sprint, Tom Shearn was 10th in 1:16:40 and Gareth Richardson 29th in 1:25:06. Seventeeth in the veteran category was Darren Chapman in 1:26:19.

In the men’s senior Olympic distance event, Andrew Sedgwick celebrated another PB in 2:21:59. Nigel Wilkinson was 22nd in 2:32:15 and Brian McCartney 28th in 2:47:44. Michelle McTaggart was third lady veteran in 2:46:12.

BIKING THIS SATURDAY

From Stapleton at 8am.

OPEN WATER SWIMMING

Will keep you updated about this as it is now getting a tad chilly at Ellerton on Wednesday nights.

VALUING VOLUNTEERS WORKSHOP

A useful one for members to consider as we target Starmark accreditation this year. The workshop is being held in Gateshead on Monday September 7 between 6.30pm-9pm. If anyone is free to attend places are available to reserve by contacting Fred Beattie. The cost is £20 (reclaimable through the club).

TURBO SURVEY

The idea for a Wednesday night turbo session is growing in popularity, providing we can find a venue. Just so we can get an idea on numbers, please say if you have a turbo you would be able to bring to sessions. The alternative is to go back to spinning classes on Wednesdays. It would be interesting to know which type of training is the preferred choice.

Good training and racing and see you soon,
