TROT BRINGS £2,120 BONUS FOR HOSPICE

Not only was Taggart’s Trot a lot of festive fun, it raised a record total of £2,120 for our charity partners St Teresa’s Hospice in Darlington. Take a bow, Grant, for another fantastic effort.

That brings the total raised for the Hospice to more than £12,000 in the nine years since these events have been staged in Barton. This year, we set another record with 75 teams drawn from far and wide as news of the event spreads every year.

The club also earned some good publicity in the local press – and we do it all again in just over 11 months’ time! Well done to Grant and everyone who made the day such a big success.

2019 MEMBERSHIP NOW OPEN

We are now taking renewals and memberships for 2019

A  big thanks to Lisa for all her help in setting up our new two-option membership levels via Entry Central. We’ve frozen next year’s standard subs at £25 if you sign up at this Early Bird price before January 31 2019. Thereafter the fee rises to £30.

For the first time this year, you can choose Membership Plus, which also covers your £15 UK Athletics registration fee to run for Darlington Tri in road and trail races and the NYSD cross-country series. This is available at the Early Bird price of £40 until January 31.Thereafter the fee rises to £45.

** Every penny of your membership fee goes into running the club. For instance, swimming sessions at the Education Village are heavily subsidised. We also give financial support to members who wish to take part in coaching and other courses.

CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR WINNERS

We’re catching our breath after another outstanding awards night in which we celebrated a wonderful year of achievement for the club.

Our revamped Club Championship has produced lots of new names on the awards list – and that was exactly our objective. We wanted to freshen things up and give more people a chance to get on the podium.

And that is precisely what we have done. Many thanks to Neil S for all his hard work in developing the new Club Championship format and keeping all the performances updated.

There will be some fine tuning to the categories next year to make sure the championships are representative of all race distances and disciplines.

CLUB WINS TRIMARK BRONZE ACCREDITATION

It’s celebrations all round for Darlington Tri after we became one of the first clubs in the North-East to win British Triathlon’s Trimark bronze accreditation.

It’s official recognition for both our senior and junior clubs that Darlington Tri meets the highest standards of governance when it comes to coaching, administration, safeguarding and child protection.

Major thanks go to Iain for all the hard work he has put into this application. It was certainly a proud moment when accreditation was confirmed at the Teesdale Triathlon.

BIG TURN-OUT AT 10TH BIRTHDAY DINNER

Around 50 members and guests attended the club’s 10th birthday gala dinner at Hotel Bannatyne. From small beginnings in 2008, Darlington Tri has become one of the major clubs in the North-East, with members regularly winning Great Britain honours. We have also become an important gateway for newcomers to the sport and we have a flourishing junior section.
Goodwill messages were read out from as far away as Australia and New Zealand. A highlight of the evening was a giant celebration cake baked by Head Coach Richard Hughes.
